We did it! We finally taught all 10 songs to the students ending with "The Lord Bless You and Keep You" and "O, That Will Be Glory"; the latter being my personal favorite because of the way it was written. It is hard to describe but once you hear it you realize that it has three different melodys each with its own distinct notes and lyrics. And there are sections in the song where the men and women sing different notes and lyrics at the same time, yet as a whole the notes and lyrics complement each other making the song sound that much more full and complete.
A couple of minor health issues arose with a couple of our students. So both of them could not attend part of the class but they eventually joined everyone later in the day.
Eugene gave a comprehensive review of all the material/music theory that would be on the exam. The exam wasn't meant to be a graded test nor did we require the students to pass it. It merely served as a tool for the students to measure their understanding and knowledge of music theory so that they would know the parts that they were strong in and for them to sharpen up on areas that they were weak in. After the exam, each student graded their own test and kept it for their own reference.
The tenors performed for the last evening session. Ernie shared a little bit on the importance of serving and also played the song Lion And The Lamb with one of the students playing backup on the electric guitar. A couple of students gave their testimonies which were powerful and stressed on keeping God the main thing in our lives and also living with desperate faith. They also sang three worship songs in their native tongue.
Launching the sky lanterns proved to be quite a challenge since we had thunderstorms with rain falling in varied intervals. It was also windy which prevented the lanterns from filling with hot air and also ascending into the sky on a clean upward trajectory. You can use your imagination to see what it would like. A handful of the lanterns were finally able to take flight and it was pretty cool to see them float in the air.
The teachers ended the night with a debriefing meeting and we went over the comments that the students had about the class. They all had positive experiences from the choir teaching and expressed their thanks and enjoyment in being able to participate in this opportunity.
We have a big day tomorrow since we will be singing 5 songs in front of an audience of approximately 40 local church leaders, family members and friends. It will be sad to see the students leave but they will be leaving with so many good memories and also the tools and motivation for them to start their own choir ministry at their church.
Prayer Requests:
- Pray that the students will have enough rest and sing well tomorrow for their final performance and graduation ceremony.
- Pray that the audience especially the local church leaders be inspired and see value in providing the support that is needed for the choir ministry to grow and thrive at the local level.
