Just received following update from Ernie.
Greetings Prayer Warriors! Thanks be to God who has prepared us wonderful saints in Christ in getting this team safely to our first layover in Amsterdam, a 10+ hour flight. There are 2 more layovers to go in Saudi Arabia and Oman before we reach our ultimate destination on Sunday, 7:30 am local India time. In total it is a 21+ hour journey in just flight time alone not counting the time spent on layovers. On the plane we were lucky enough to have a row of 4 seats to ourselves. The team spent most of the time sleeping, eating, conversing and getting to know one another, preparing the vocal teaching curriculum, and reviewing the order of songs that we will be teaching in order of difficulty. We are lucky to have 3 people (Lily, Eugene, and Amy) who have varying skills and knowledge in music theory whether it be learned in a university setting, teaching piano or vocal singing. Here is a fun fact. Lily used to teach Ernie in the youth church choir when he attended FEC Glendale.
Getting to Amsterdam was not without its share of surprises though. Ernie, who had another trip to China/Canada (June 6th) following the India trip (May 30th) decided to apply for his China visa on the same week that his flight to India departs. It totally skipped his mind that he would need his passport to fly out of the county on Friday. The consulate officer told him that his visa would be finished and ready for pickup on Monday, May 22nd. So on Friday, May 19th, the day the team was scheduled to fly out to India, Ernie rushed over to the consulate office in Koreatown and waited in line to get his passport pulled. They could either find it and give it to him without the China visa or process the visa for an expedited fee. After waiting in line for 90 minutes, and after much pleading, he finally received his passport and visa and rushed to LAX where he met with the rest of the team for the prayer and send off.
The team finally reached Bangalore, India, Sunday morning at 7:30 am. They were exhausted but pleased to know that all of their luggage arrived safely with them. After going through immigration, they met up with Tim Kim who had arranged for 2 cars to transport them to their housing and accommodations. At the center, we showered and rested up before meeting again for lunch at 1 pm. During lunch, Tim briefed the team on what to expect in the coming days and went over some of the schedule. About 20 students will be bussed in early morning tomorrow. After an early morning service, we will introduce ourselves and do vocal range testing to see where each student's vocal range is. The rest of the day will be spent on vocal training and also introducing them to a few of the songs.
Before dinner tonight, the team will get together to plan for Monday's lesson and forming a daily schedule outline for the rest of the week.
At this time it is 7:30 p and the team will have dinner.
Prayer requests:
Restful sleep and energy for the next day
Productive and fun time connecting with our students as we get to know them and understanding team dynamics
Patience and perseverance in learning the music.
Good weather under 90F.
