{FECA Vision Choir} Sharing and Debbie Lee post

Please come to FEC Glendale on Sunday Aug. 25 starting 1:30 to hear us share about our short term mission trip to Paris.  We will meet in the Auxiliary  Chapel.

Debbie shares her personal notes for the extra three days she and Shi-Min, Monica, and Lai Fei spent in Paris after the rest of the group left.

07-28-24   (Saturday)
We were touring around the Eiffel Tower.  I was looking around and the Lord brought this family to my attention several times.  The mom was in a summer dress.  She caught my attention for it was a cold morning.  Later I asked the Lord in my heart if I were to talk to them.  I said "Lord if You brought them to me again then I would bring up a conversation."  Sure enough, they were behind me when we were waiting to go up the elevator.  I chatted with the mom.  I knew they were from India, the south side.  The son was about 5 years old.  Looks like he doesn't say much English, so he might not be too local (or maybe the child speaks French???).  They just reminded me of Riddhi and Nikita.  I missed them.  There were not much other things I can share with them.  I think like the devotional this morning, I only need to obey.  I will leave the result up to God.

Afterwards we took an Uber to Arc de Triomphe.  After going to the top, took pictures and walked around for a while, finally as we went into the siting area.  I sat next to a young Asian girl.  I heard her talking in Cantonese.  I then took the opportunity to talk to her.  She told me she came with family from England.  Originally they were from HK.  She is going to college now.  I told her I came with a team of people to sing and share the Good News.  She told me she sometimes goes to church but has not been lately.  I encourage her to continue her faith.   She seemed very open to talk and willing.  May God bring her to a church where she can grow in faith.

07-28-24. (Sunday)
Very hectic, have not yet processed.
07-29-24   (Monday)
The rest of the group went to Monet Garden.  I decided to stay back to rest and to walk around the area.

The morning before on the 28th I read Oswald Chamber's Jesus walking on water – Mark 6:48.  Oswald said, "If I can stay calm and unperplexed in the middle of the turmoil,  I've already reached the end of God's purpose…..  God is training us to obey him in the present moment, and to leave all other considerations alone.  We have no control over what happens after we obey; we go wrong when we start dwelling on the "afterward".  God wants us to see that he can walk on the chaos of our lives right now."  I also remembered one of the devotionals for our team was also regarding "walking on water".  I was encouraged as I am reminded of His Scripture that says "God's unfailing love surrounds those who trust in Him".  So I went out after I found a Pho place close by.  I finally landed at the Pho place with not much trouble.  One young lady greeted me.  She spoke English to me.  I ordered the food.  There were 2 tables of people.  One table sat a young girl with her computer busy typing.  Another table were a group of either 2 or 3 people.  After I ordered, I decided to walk over to check out the other fruit stands.  After a while, I went back to the Pho place.  The food was ready.  I asked the young lady their hours.  She told me they will close in a little bit and then will reopen again.  I left since I do not know if there is anyone I can talk to.

I then passed by a fast food place and I thought that was a Pho place.  I saw 2 young persons, a boy and a girl.  I felt like I was to go in.  So, I went inside.  One of the workers or maybe owner stood behind the cooked food stands like those at Panda Express.  I tried making conversation with her.  I told her I came with a team of people from America to sing and to tell others about the Good News.  She mentioned as long as the world has peace that would be good.  I told her it would be hard to have peace because people are selfish in nature.  I started to have a very tender feeling in my heart for I felt for these innocent people who are oppressed by the greedy and the powerful.  I asked her to look at the world now.  We have war in so many countries.  Then I told her actually our God had Chinese in His mind even way back in Chinese history.  She then listened for a while then she had to go and worked at the kitchen.  I talked with the 2 young students who lived in France.  They were probably in their early twenties.  They gave me their names, I felt like they might be Christians.  I encouraged them to continue telling others of the Good News, keep going and do not give up.

 7-30-24   (Tuesday)
The 4 of us went to a mall recommended by locals for souvenirs.  We decided to split up and meet again in an hour.

I saw an older Chinese woman sitting by herself.  I walked up to her.  She looked at me.  I asked her if she mind me sitting next to her.  She was receptive.  She told me it was a hot day so she came to the mall to enjoy the cool, air condition.  I asked if she has been in Paris for long.  I told her I came with a team of people to sing and tell others the Good News of Jesus Christ.  She said she is a Buddhist.  She said as long as people believes in a god, people will be directed to be good.  I told her Jesus came to take all our sins onto Himself because we cannot be good enough.  Then I told her what a divine time we had with each other.  I, from the United States, would come all the way to meet her in France.  Later she told me her name.  I asked if I can pray for her.  She said I can pray for her later.  I told her if at any point in her life she needs help, she can cry out to Jesus Christ and said, "Jesus Christ if You are God then show me and help me."  She nodded.   We parted with that.

{FECA Vision Choir} Fwd: Mission report on 7/27 Saturday

Here is David Ting's report on the last day they were in Paris before leaving on Sunday. The remaining four should have arrived back in LA today but I have not heard from them.

Begin forwarded message:

Subject: Mission report on 7/27 Saturday

On Saturday morning, the English team left early at 5am to catch their flight back to the US.   It rained almost the entire day; only letting up toward the evening.

The remaining team members (the Mandarin team) were having breakfast when a lady named Sarah approached Ting Han.   She lives in the southern part of France but was visiting Paris to attend a religious meeting.   We chatted with her and learned that while she is a believer, she does not attend church and she is weary about joining a church.  She was a muslim before converting to christianity and spoke briefly about the hardship of being a muslim convert.  She also talked about her desire to make her home in Paris.  We told her about our singing missionary trip and she mentioned that she also likes to sing.  David and Anne prayed for her to have a good visit and find a supportive Christian community and a home church that can give her support and that she will feel comfortable to be a part of.

After breakfast the Mandarin team continued with the 9am devotion and read the story of Jesus walking on water.   While we were all familiar with the story, it became very personal when we realized we had been trying to walk on water during this entire trip.   Putting faith in God to help us to evangelize to strangers.  With this exciting realization, each member shared their experiences.

The rain continued on Saturday and since we were not able to go sing outside near the chinese restaurants we decided to take it easy on this rainy day and offer free activities for the rest of the day and to evangelize if the opportunity came up.

{FECA Vision Choir} Short update on Uber to airport, July 27

I would like to share the conversation with the Uber driver when Serena, Hannah, Mei and I rode to the airport Saturday morning. The driver's name is Ibrahim, an Egyptian who is in Paris to make some money while his wife and three children, two girls age 9 and 7, and 6 month old son, are in Egypt. His English is adequate for simple conversations but when I commented on his being named after our father of faith Abraham, he did not understand the word "faith". He is a Muslim, but several of his neighbors in Paris are Christians. We talked quite a bit about the commonality of our beliefs. He thinks Jesus did not die, because how could God die, but believes Jesus is coming back and we will all receive our reward from Isa (Jesus) when He comes back. He said he likes his Christian neighbors, because they are honest and hard working. He gratefully appreciated our prayer of blessing for him, his family, and his future. Remember Ibrahim, may his Christian neighbors share the true gospel with him.

As I write this Sunday afternoon (LA time), David and Anne, Ting-Hou and Alice, Shirley and Rebecca (Xiao Hong) are on the plane back to LA. Anne (Lai Fei), Monica, Shi-Min and Debbie are vacationing in Paris for 3 more days. Pray for God to give them divine appointments as they act like tourists.

{FECA Vision Choir} Update Friday, July 26

As usual, we met after breakfast to do our devotions and debrief yesterday's activities. At the Pantheon yesterday, when we took pictures with the police, Anne Ting was able to share with a young couple from China, as shown in the photograph sent a few hours earlier. The bottom photo showed Debbie and Mei sharing with the father from Iran (Anne Chan standing watch in the foreground). When we were prayer walking in small groups after not attracting much attention under the Metro station and my small team had the thrill of seeing this old lady healed of her knee problem, Glenn, Shirley and Rebecca visited a small Chinese restaurant. The woman proprietor was quite unfriendly, but her husband soon joined the conversation and he was very gregarious. He said he is a third generation Christian but did not see much difference between Christians and non-Christians although his wife does attend a Chinese church locally but did not want us to pray for her. We might be wrong but we concluded that perhaps the Chinese churches in Paris are not teaching their congregants to be evangelical and disciples. Anne Chan mounted her courage and approached an European girl, wondering how she could communicate. To her surprise, this European girl responded by speaking Mandarin to her; God used this to show Anne to step out in faith. Ting-Han, good wife Alice, and Debbie talked to a different Chinese restaurant owner for quite a time. While he was not ready, he was open to learn more. Afterwards, they met a last pushing her maybe 8 year old daughter in a wheelchair, looking unhappy. Ting-Han was able to get this girl to play with his guitar which made her happy and that made the mother happy too, but they left soon after. Sometimes our invitations are gladly accepted but most of the time they are rejected. But I am encouraged by our team members' willingness to step out in faith.

After dinner at a pretty nice restaurant where we (most of us) tried escargot - snails, we walked back to our guest house. Anne Ting fell a little behind the group and soon heard footsteps behind her. She turned around and to her relief, find out it was not a stalker but two ladies behind her, a mother and daughter. They soon got into a conversation and Anne found out they were from a small island near Madagascar in east Africa. The daughter will be attending university in Paris and the mother was here for a few weeks to look for an apartment for her daughter. It turns out they were temporarily staying at the same guest house we are in and several people had already been praying for them to find housing, and they had just found it, an answer to prayer! It is in these many small ways we see God's fingerprints all over this place.

We then left in 4 Ubers to MEP, Mission Etrangeres de Paris. We were met there by Tim Kim and Tim Lin of FECG. This is a Catholic museum showing the history of early missionary efforts into China, Vietnam, Korea, etc. We saw many artifacts showing how many of these missionaries were martyred and because of their sacrifice, the church grew in Korea. The boxer rebellion in China also resulted in many martyrs. We also saw a reproduction of an ancient plaque found in Sian (I think) dated the second year of Tang Dynasty (around 850 AD) showing how early missionaries were sent to evangelize China. After lunch at a nearby cafe, we took some pictures (shown below) and returned for our afternoon nap. This evening is the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games which we will watch on TV, since everything is blocked off and we have no tickets to get into the blocked areas. Glenn, Serena, Hannah, DC and Alice and Meiring and I plan to depart at 5:30 am to catch the 8:40 flight to LA. The Mandarin group of David and Anne, Ting-Han and Alice, Shirley and Rebecca are leaving Sunday afternoon. The remaining four ladies, Shi-Min, Anne Chan, Monica and Debbie are staying an extra three days to play tourist in Paris on their own expense. Thank God for leading us in ways we did not imagine and I am hopeful we're can bring the fervor of Simple evangelism back to our respective churches in LA.

The second photo below was taken in the garden of MEP. The fancy house in the back left is where the prime minister lives, so you can see MEP is located in a prime area of Paris, an example of God's abundance.

{FECA Vision Choir} Quick addition to July 25 updates

Sorry for all the typos and bad grammar in my last report but I just had to share the good news with you. Of course we have seen many miraculous healing during past Vision trips (England, Mexico, India) but it was our first obvious miracle healing we and not several on the team prayed.

Anyway here is a photo of some of us with the police in front of the Parthenon. The young man next to Anne Ting on the left (his wife is covered by his left hand) was the couple we shared with. More later.

{FECA Vision Choir} Update Thursday July 25

One correction: the speaker Chuck something is really named Derek Mack. Remember the name and see how God will be using this young American in the future.

During devotion, we also debriefed yesterday's experience at YWAM. Since our devotion passage matched Derek's challenge the night before, we went around and shared what was the one thing hardest for us to give up. It was a blessed time of vulnerability and honesty as we shared about giving up control, identity, to our children who are no longer following Christ (we also prayed for them) among the many things. This two hours probably made our trip here worth the expense and effort - not what we thought when we came, but may our resolve to follow Christ wholeheartedly change the way we are after we return to LA.

After this time, we walked to the Pantheon, built by Louis XV but now the burial place for many famous Frenchmen and women, like Emile Zola and Madame Curie. This tourist site was swarming with Police who had assembled there waiting for their Chief to come give them their deployment instruction. We actually had a fun time talking to the police, but we also had a chance to share with a young Chinese couple and a family from Iran. This family, now living in Belgium, moved to escape the anti-women restrictions of the Iran leadership. Meiring and Debbie talked extensively with the father who was very open and excited to hear he could have a personal relation with God. Pray that God would bring someone else to reap the harvest of this family from the seed we planted.

After lunch and a nap, we left at 4pm to walk and sing under the Metro station. After about 15 minutes, we realized we were not making much of an impact as people there were hurrying to catch a train or leave the station, so we divided ourselves into 5 groups to prayer walk and share with people we might meet. I will only report on Meiring, Monica and my experience and during debriefing time tomorrow, find out other stories to with you. We saw a group of black teenage boys sitting on steps leading to a residential park area, so we went down and sat on a bench to catch our breath. An old lady limped by with a cane accompanied by a middle-aged man. We greeted them and found out they spoke some English as they said they were going into a near by supermarket. We then mustered our courage and approached this group (about ten) teenagers. We asked tallest and kind of the leader of these kids if he spoke any English, a few words but he used his smart phone to translate and Marshall used his 60 year old French to communicate. It turns out all these kids lived in the apartments overlooking this park. His name is Joshua Emmanuel, and he said he is a Christian but all his buddies were Muslim. He said he likes basketball and rap music so Monica recorded his made up rap as he danced to it. We might have a chance to share his dancing with you when we return. Monica encouraged him to share his faith with his buddies and we walked back to the bench we were sitting in earlier. The elderly lady with the cane was just returning from the store with a couple bags of groceries. Since she had such a hard time walking, I asked if we could pray for her knee. She said yes so Meiring prayed that Jesus would heal her, after prayer, I asked if she felt better. She said a little and I was about to pray some more for her when she dropped her cane and started to dance. The middle aged man was her son who had told us it was hard taking care of his 82 year old mom, couldn't believe his eyes. He thanked us profusely. We should have shared the gospel with them but they were in kind of a hurry to bring their groceries home. Pray that here too, God will bring someone to finish the "job" of bringing them to Christ. We met up with the rest of team and excitedly shared this miracle as we walked to eat dinner. Praise God, this is the first time Meiring and I prayed for someone and saw instant healing! Hallelujah. Thank you too to Pastor John, Raimer and Jen from Epicentre who came twice to train us to share our testimonies, the good news, and pray boldly when we see the infirm.

{FECA Vision Choir} Update Wednesday July 24

We met after breakfast and the first thing we did was to decide if we wanted to attend the attend the concert this evening or visit the Gardens of Luxembourg located only a kilometer walking distance from where we are staying to do prayer and evangelism. A slight majority were in favor as it would be a good experience to see and hear how Gen-Z worships but some thought with our limited time here, we should focus on doing ministry. We finally decided we would first find out if tickets (at 12.5 Eutos) we're still available so we bought one ticket (which required giving our email, home address, credit card, etc.). And yes, there was still room, so we decided to go. After devotion and debriefing, we then walked to Luxembourg Park, sang to some preschool kids Amazing Grace and Jesus Loves Me and acted like tourists, but still had a chance to talk to some people while waiting to take the photo shown below. We found out we were not allowed to play musical instruments in the park (maybe not even sing) by the gendarmes (police), so we went to buy lunch at some local restaurants, some from a French bakery and some at an Italian restaurant.

After a short rest, we then left at about 3 to catch a metro to the YWAM concert and arrived there a few minutes after 4. By the time we cleared security and sat down, it was about 4:40 pm and 20 minutes before the actual start. There were several thousand people in a large indoor hall, full of young and enthusiastic young adults, both staff and audience. The music was very loud, so loud the seats and floor vibrated and lights color coordinated with the music. The audience danced and sang, and not only were we treated to music, there was a lot of choreography (including one with energetic male dancers dancing to rap music). But the lyrics were solid Biblical worship and between different singers were prayers and challenging calls for dedication to be wholly followers of Jesus and change the world, starting with us as individuals, be filled with the Holy Spirit, then Paris, France, Europe and the world. One of the speakers, Chuck something, less than 30 years old, used the passage about the rich young man asking Jesus what shall I do to gain eternal life and Jesus telling him, one thing you lack (actually our devotion for today - isn't it amazing how God chose this passage for us weeks ago when we had no idea what we would be doing?). He asked us to give up what is most important to us, be it money, sex, future career, and give ourselves to let God use us. At about 7:30, 12 of us decided we would leave early, leaving David and Anne Ting, Ting-Han and Alice Lin, and Hannah Go to stay longer. We returned home before 9 pm, stopped at a local grocery store and bought some sandwiches and prepared salads to eat at the guesthouse before retiring for the night, praising God for His calling out a new generation of disciples (and ourselves being challenged to give what is left of our lives) for Him to use.

Here are three photos, one from Tuesday at Place d'Italie, Luxembourg Park and the YWAM Ignite+.

{FECA Vision Choir} Minor corrections to July 23 updates

The family of 4 was a couple, their son, and aging mother, not a second son that Shirley and Rebecca were talking to last night. They are all Buddhists but Shirley was able to share a tract that Debbie brought. Also forgot to mention that while singing in front of Tang's Gourmet, we met an elderly couple who said they were believers from China here for the Olympics and thanked us profusely for singing the Good News publicly on the streets in Paris. Also that YWAM's Ignite, the main reason we came, is going on tonight, but scaled down to only six hours, from 4 pm to 10 pm with only six invited groups to lead the praise and worship, but we were not invited to participate. However, we have found that street evangelism is a wonderful ministry we are learning to do here in Paris. God's ways are so much higher than our ways.

{FECA Vision Choir} Update Tuesday July 23

This morning, we had our first full team devotion and meeting together since the twelve who went to the worship outside of Paris did not return until after 11 pm. It was quite an adventure, first because the metro tickets only took them so far out of town and technically, they could not get off the station but the guard realized we were foolish tourists so in his kindness, let us off. The location held on the entrance of a church a few steps above the field in a mainly minority neighborhood was intimidating, but we had a chance to meet many immigrants, some Muslims, who were in fact quite open to the gospel. We were able to share quite freely and realized God had brought them to France to give them an opportunity to hear the Good News. The return was even more exciting. We had to buy paper tickets, but the ticket machine allowing us into the station was faulty. A local lady (not the manned station personnel since they had all left work by that hour of the evening) spent over half an hour helping to no avail. She even recruited another man to help us. We were humbled by these people willing to help us strangers and we were blessed by their love. But we were finally able to get home, spending 5-1/2 hours for about an hour of worship and messages, but learned humility and saw our sovereign Lord's hand in all we encountered.

After our devotion, we practiced our songs and then decided to go sing on the streets of Paris. We first sang on the sidewalk in front of our guest house. Several passerby listened a bit, but one person on an upstairs balcony of the guest house applauded our song. We then proceeded to the main street next to a Metro station and sang several songs under the metro tracks overhead. We had a chance to talk to a few, including a Muslim woman who spent at least 15 minutes talking to us and asking how can one God be three? Nevertheless, she gave several of us a big hug when she left. We sang both English songs and Mandarin songs, and one young man thanked us and said he is a follower of Jesus and attends a Dominican (Catholic) church down the street. After spending over half an hour singing with Ting Han playing the guitar and Glenn his saxophone, we walked to a Vietnamese fast food take out located a few minutes from our guest house. This establishment is run by a couple from Wun Tsou who have been here about twenty years. After eating, with no customers coming in, we asked permission to sing to them to bless them. They were very happy to listen to us. We subsequently learned that the wife's mother (parents both still in China) is Buddhist but she professes no faith and both she and her husband were very open. Shirley closed in prayer for them before we left. One other interesting event when we were singing was a homeless lady with two young girls (maybe aged four and two-ish) stopped on the sidewalk and asked for food for her two children. Shi-Min generously offered to buy them lunch and we were able to share that God knows of their plight and loves them. We then returned to the guest house, some to nap and some went with DC and Alice to view the Eiffel Tower from the Champ Elisee.

Tonight we plan to walk down to the Chinese restaurant area where Marshall and Meiring were Stanley Cheng's guest last night see if we can do some ministry there. So walked to the Place d'Italie and warmed up by singing a few songs in the roundabout (see photograph). We then walked a few hundred meters down Av. De Choisy and started singing Amazing Grace and several other songs and hymns in front of a restaurant called Tang's Gourmet. As we sang, most passerbys ignored us but a fre stayed and listened. When we sang Chinese songs, we had the chance to talk to several people. In particular, Meiring, Debbie and Marshall noticed a white middle aged man sitting nearby listening attentively so we had a chance to greet him. It spoke some English and told us his name is Gil, he came to Paris from Africa (probably South Africa) but he is sometimes depressed (and we could smell alcohol on his breath but he was fully sober). He said he so much enjoyed our singing bringing leave to him. We had a chance to pray a blessing for him and used the prayer to share how Jesus loves him and died for him. We did not notice that he had a brace on his right hand until he was ready to leave so we failed to pray for healing for him. May God bring someone else to finish His work in saving Gil. After singing for about half an hour (now past 8 pm), we walked across the street to eat dinner at Comme au Vietnam, featuring Shanghai and Szechuan food. Our large group of 15 (DC and Alice had gone to visit Tim and Kloe Kim) attracted such a large crowd of diners that they had to wait to be seated. Shirley and Rebecca than had a chance to talk many minutes to a family of 4 (husband, wife and two preteen boys) who had come from Shanghai for the Olympics and had specifically chosen to eat at this highly rated restaurant from their Chinese Yelp review.

{FECA Vision Choir} Monday July 22

The rest of our team, David and Anne Ting, Ting-Han and Alice Lin, Shirley Qu and Xiao Hong (Rebecca) Gao all arrived safely this afternoon (Paris time). This morning, we divided into two teams and walked around our neighborhood to do prayer walk. We talked to several shop keepers and even bought some groceries from them. One man from Bangladesh welcomed our prayer of blessing for him and he in turn prayed a blessing to his god (probably Hindu or Moslem) for us. We met an elderly Chinese woman who smiled and greeted us in Mandarin. We prayed blessing for a hospital, a pharmacy, a school, but did not share the good news with anyone.

This evening, 12 of us, including all 6 recent arrivals are going to an open worship night outside of Paris where security is not so restrictive. Our activities inside Paris has been so curtailed that all the YWAM plans have been eliminated and we think YWAM is no longer participating, but God brought us here for a reason. David Ting has been connected with Phillip, who belongs to another Chinese church here. Marshall and Mei have been invited to dinner by Stanley Cheng and his wife, Stanley is a long time Parisian, the younger brother of Steve Cheng who started the FEC choir back in Rev, Chua's home back in 1968. Steve was married to Margie, Mike Shen's younger sister (Steve went home to be with the Lord a few years ago). We are praying these extra connections will bless the Chinese church here in Paris.

{FECA Vision Choir} Arrived safely

Though it was a hassle, after we landed safely, we took 3 Ubers to get to our guest house, St Jean Eudes in central Paris. Not fancy but clean. We are blessed to be here and was met by Tim and Kloe Kim when we arrived at the guest house.

{FECA Vision Choir} Anyone interested?

FECA has been invited to send a music team to Paris a few days before the start of the Summer Olympics and minister before and for a few days during the Olympics.  As former Vision members, I am asking anyone interested to let me know by replying to this email.  I am trying to gauge if we can bring together a team of singers to go there and sing and do some street evangelism.
