For the last couple of years, both Meiring and I have felt a call to go to Northern Iraq and bless the Yazidi people who live their. Our friend (who went with Vision to London in 1998) Willy Tan has started a ministry called Habibi International sending medical and dental teams there for the last several years. The Yazidis are a minority group there, neither Muslims nor Christians, who are persecuted and of course, there are also a lot of Muslim refugees who have migrated north from Mosul while fleeing ISIS. While the medical teams have brought much needed physical relief, Willy has been telling us about their need for emotional and spiritual relief, and that is where music can be a real blessing. So after much prayer, we have formed a small group of former Vision members to join up with a medical team (some of whom were also Vision singers in their younger days). We will be leaving on March 22 and returning on April 7. So far, the singing team consists of Amy Chen, Lily Lau, Glenn Duh, Christine Gaw, Brandon Chioy, Meiring and myself, although we are still trying to recruit a couple more people, including a pastor who can preach (and hopefully sing). Amy and Lily were with Vision in the early 1980's and also went to India in 2017 to teach music there. Dr. Glenn Duh was with Vision from 1986 to 1990 when he was still in High School and Christine Gaw, a physical therapist, was with Vision from 1997 to 1999. Brandon was with Vision when we went to Serbia in 2008.
As we prepare to go, will you covenant to pray for us? We know we will experience spiritual warfare there and covet your prayer covering. Please pray weekly as we prepare to go and then daily when we are there. Pray for one specific member of the team - perhaps you were with them when you sang in Vision, or for the whole team. If you want to make this commitment, please email me back and let me know who you are praying for. Also, the trip will cost about $2300 per person, for airfare, living expenses, etc. If you would like to contribute to our financial needs, please send a check to FECA and denote Vision – Iraq in the memo line. You can also go on line to www.feca.org and donate online, just click "Vision" and we will know it is for Iraq (rather than the later summer Vision mission. If we collect more than we need for Iraq, we will use the funds for Vision later). Thank you.
